Social & Community Participation

Members plan our social and community participation activities by meeting once a month and suggesting activities, events and places they would like to visit.  The activities range from visiting a local coffee shop through to organising an overnight camp.  Our member suggestions are discussed, voted on and then put into our monthly social recreation calendar.  In most cases, Toowoomba Clubhouse is able to subsidise the cost of doing these activities thanks to donations and government funding.  To see what activities are on this month, check out of social recreation calendar.

Community Participation

Toowoomba Clubhouse is active in the Toowoomba community and regularly participates in local events and fundraisers.  Some of these events include: Homelessness Week, Queensland Mental Health Week, RUOK? Day, as well as community events such as the Carnival of Flowers. In all of these events, members are encouraged to help on information stalls, volunteer their time and work with other services and members of the community.

Social Recreation (Every Wednesday 4:30pm – 6:30pm)

Toowoomba Clubhouse runs social recreation activities every Wednesday evening with an aim to encourage members to connect with their local community and try new things. Some of the past activities include: ten pin bowling, mini golf, attending local festivals, joining in health and fitness groups.

Thanks to funding from Government programs, Towooomba Clubhouse is able to subsidise some of the cost of these activities to make it accessible to more members.  Check out our latest social recreation calendar here

Cappy Hour (Every Thursday 3:30pm-4:30pm)

Cappy Hour happens every Thursday and gives members a chance to visit a local coffee shop, enjoy a cuppa or cold drink and socialise with fellow members and staff in a new environment.  Each month we choose a different café.  You can check out our latest social recreation calendar to find out where we are meeting this week.

Weekend Social Recreation (Once a month)

Once a month we do something different and get together on a Saturday or Sunday.  Sometimes these activities line up with a local festival or show in Brisbane.  Other times it is an active social recreation activity that takes a bit longer, for example horse riding or an art class. These activities are always popular so its important to book in early via our social recreation calendar (click on the event and fill out the form to RSVP.)

Clubhouse Camps (1-2 times per year)

Members look forward to camp every year and take an active role in researching potential locations and activities. Previous camps have been at Coolum, Lennox Heads and Cunnamulla.  Camps are a great way for members to build indenpendence and confidence while exploring a new place with friends and like minded people.  On our camps, members are encouraged to try new things but always at their own pace.  For those that don’t like the idea of sleeping in tents, we make sure that there is always the option of cabins/dorms and full kitchen facilities.
