Jo is a nomadic ‘student of life’ who has applied herself to work in a diverse range of positions relating to hospitality, tourism, administration, education, youth work, crisis accommodation, disability support and mental health.  Of the 12 places she has lived, Toowoomba is Jo’s favourite and she has, for the past 4 years, been uncharacteristically settled here with her husband and adult son.  With Tertiary Qualifications in Community Cultural Development and Social Inclusion, Jo works part time as a Support Facilitator in PIR whilst concurrently completing a Master of Teaching. Jo has been gardening and cooking since childhood.  Her recent pursuits include swimming, knitting and ‘guitaring.’  Her lifelong ambition is to perform John Travolta’s ‘Saturday Night Fever’ dance sequence in a crowded city square.

Who would play you in a film? Helena Bonham Carter.  There is no physical resemblance between us, but I always relate to the quirky, complex characters she plays.

If you were planning a music festival, who – dead or alive – would be your headliner? Nina Simone - she would open her act with ‘I Got Life’.

You're given an airplane ticket to anywhere in the world – where do you choose to go? Israel

What's your favourite memory?  I have so many favourite memories, picking a favourite is hard… the closest to a single favourite memory I can get is the day my baby son showed me how important I am to him OR the day my husband told me he loves me OR any one of the lovely days I spent outside with my Grandad when I was very little.

Who is your inspiration? There are lots of people who inspire me, but the most consistent is my husband Peter.

You're on a deserted island – what have you brought with you? I brought my Bible.

Why Toowoomba Clubhouse? The concept of a collaborative community of people who support each other through the joys and challenges of recovery-I have a lived experience of recovery myself so this ideal has been important to me for a very long time.
